The European Commission begins the disbursement of aid to more than 35,000 Palestinian families
Through the temporary international mechanism, the European Commission began the disbursement of financial aid to more than 35 thousand less fortunate Palestinian families, regardless of social allocations, in the West Bank and Gaza.The Office of the European Commission in Jerusalem stated that the UNHCR in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and Social Affairs has provided 6.5 million Euros (35.75 million shekels) to beneficiaries of the fifth installment of allocations within the plan for the temporary international mechanism for difficult social situations.The statement said that each beneficiary receives 1,000nis(185 euros) mainly to poor families.According to the statement ever since June 2006 the temporary international mechanism has disbursed 338 million euros(1.86 billion shekels) of social allocations to directly support Palestinians. The statement also stated that more than 500 million euros(3.75 billion shekels) have been provided from 485 million euros(2.65 billion shekels) contributed by the EU for all components of the international mechanism to support the Palestinian people of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
