Britain: We will provide 500 million dollars for the reconstruction of Palestinian areas if security progresses
The British Prime Minister Gordon Brown yesterday that Britain pledges 500 million dollars in assistance for the reconstruction of Palestinian areas in case of "significant progress" in improving security in the region. The Brown expressed optimism about the peace conference, which is being sponsored in Annapolis and Washington, and invited other European countries and the United States to join Britain in the obligation to provide financial assistance to Gaza and the West Bank.
He said Brown told the House of Commons: "If significant progress in the area of security took place, then the United Kingdom would be ready to provide assistance amounting to 500 million dollars in the region in order to achieve economic reconstruction."
